The Platform
The WR1 is a purpose-designed AWD rally platform built around readily available RC drivetrain components. It features independent suspension on all four corners, front, center, and rear differentials, and is sized to run WR8-compatible wheels and tires.
Drive system: HobbyWing Quicrun 10BL120 G2 ESC paired with a 3660 brushless motor — a proven, serviceable combination used across the performance RC community.
Suspension: independent on all four corners with 85mm front and 95mm rear oil-filled shocks.
Differentials: three-diff AWD layout (front, center, rear) using GPM-spec metal internals — the same approach used in full-production RC cars at 3–4x the cost.
Wheels: designed to accept HPI WR8 Tarmac wheels and tires directly off the shelf.
What It Takes to Build
Building a WR1 requires purchasing the non-printed hardware separately. One-time tools (soldering iron, hex drivers, pliers) are additional if you don't already own them.
The build guide includes a complete, itemized hardware list with direct purchase links for every component. Every item is sourceable from Amazon or AliExpress — nothing obscure, nothing discontinued.
You'll get the most out of this if you have built or modded an RC car before and are comfortable with assembly, own or have access to an FDM 3D printer (minimum 180×180 mm build plate), and want a platform you fully understand and can repair yourself.
File Details
Files are delivered as STL and/or 3MF, compatible with all major slicers: Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer, and Cura.
Recommended materials: PETG or ASA for chassis components; PLA+ is acceptable for low-load parts. Print settings for every part are in the build guide.
The WR1 is the most complete thing we've published — a full rolling chassis, not just a body shell.
